Treat Me Normal
By-Amanda D. Petty
I don’t want any special treatment because I’m not looking for it. Yes, I’m handicapped and not a “special needs” person. I’m sick of people calling me that. Yes, they are being nice and all but stop it.
I want to be treated normal because I am. I’m not stupid, at times I may seem to be but I’m playing. I understand things and people just don’t get it and I want to know why? Why do they assume that I don’t comprehend? Is it because I’m in a wheelchair? Really, tell me. Talk TO me and not my friends or my family. I’ll talk back. Oh wait, I get it, you don’t realize my speech. Understanding, I’ll repeat myself.
If I treat YOU like something is wrong with you, how would you feel? Tell me. Does is feel good? Nope. Hey, you treat me like that and I’m just giving it back to you.
An Uplifting: We truly want to thank you for reading this. We’re promising, we do know how you truly feel. It will get better, don’t give up. We know some days are bad: physical or emotional or both. On those days, you want to die. We know that firsthand; what help us the most is God. We hope this issue will help you. Just don’t give up. Heavenly Father knows your pains; maybe that’s why we’re here, giving you strength for a new hour. My friend, we really do know how you feel.
