Teaching You
By-Amanda D. Petty
Iâll teach you.
Iâm your tutor.
Youâll be in school.
âOn what subject?â
Your life.
âI donât need a teacher.
I know my life.â
Youâre saying.
Iâm going to ask you
A few questions.
Are you considerate?
Are you patient?
Are you tolerant to real pain?
Are you optimistic about life?
Can you love someone who is different?
Look into my eyes,
And
Tell me the true answers.
If youâre thinking,
âReal pain?â
Oh honey, I know real pain.
Do you want the list?
Yes?
Iâve been in surgeries for half of my life.
Iâve got my heart broken once or twice.
I drowned at twenty-two months.
I have Cerebral Palsy.
I live in a power wheelchair.
Feel sorry?
I hope not.
Iâm your teacher,
Teaching you about real life
And how blessed you really are.
Tutoring you how to love
Someone different.
